Eastport Shopping Center
Environmental Cleanup
The Maryland Department of the Environment held a public meeting on May 22 about the environmental cleanup of Eastport Shopping Center.
According to The Capital, Eastport Plaza LLC is participating in the state's Voluntary Cleanup Program to deal with contaminants found in the site's soil and groundwater. You may recall that the gasoline station at the shopping center was demolished in 2006. At that time four underground tanks were removed and contaminated soil was found at the site. According to The Capital, in 2007, the company joined the voluntary program, which encourages the redevelopment of contaminated properties.
If you are interested in this and did not attend the meeting tonight, MDE officials will accept comments on the plans through June 2.
For information, write to MDE project manager Irena Rybak at 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 625, Baltimore, MD, 21230, or call 410-537-3493. Her email is irybak@mde.state.md.us.
